Savage Dawn is a story that starts out innocently enough with a mother-daughter camping excursion. Some backstory of characters, including the paranormal abilities of the daughter follow. Suddenly, we’re in a thrilling story of survival following multiple catastrophic volcano eruptions. There are some very graphic and chilling scenes not for the faint of heart, but the events are true to life and any reader interested in an apocalyptic adventure will love this story.
During the eruption of Mt. St. Helens back in 1980, I happened to be camping. Although the familial drama of this story is considerably more interesting, mine was also mother-daughter trip. We were in Idaho, making our way west, the mountain itself is in the state of Washington. We had volcanic ash on our tent and the air was thick with the smell of sulfur. Ergo, I found the story completely believable and an exciting read.
Enjoy!

Savage Dawn edition by Inge Moore Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I don't know what to think about this story. The main character, Karen, was a little too strange for my taste. She has a daughter that seems to be somewhat psychic and she wants to spend alot of time with her, but she doesn't. (The 6yr old daughter calls her Karen ???) She's got a best friend, Maria, that she doesn't pay much attention to. She's got a doctor that she's in love with, but she isn't.
I thought the story was well-written, very few typos and grammar errors, but it wasn't one of those stories I "couldn't put down". However, if there is a sequel or two to this, I'll get them because maybe my confusion will be cleared up.
Well done, author. Inge Moore shows off her writing chops with this complex plot centered on a natural disaster and how a small band of survivors pool their resources to make the best of a horrific situation. Ms. Moore's attention to the details of death and destruction were at times unexpected yet riveting. Her skill as a storyteller pulled me into the problems of various characters, in particular, those of heroine, Karen, a single mom with a ton of baggage that gets heavier with the changing seasons. There are lessons to be learned in Savage Dawn -- among others, how much or how little it takes to find happiness and a sense of security.
Gripping. I had no idea what the story was about until I started to read, even then there were lots of unexpected things happening. Really enjoyed the story and I want Book 2 now to see what happens next. Roxy is wonderful, I enjoyed the way she knew things. If it wasn't for Nata, I wonder if they would have survived so well. Well done Inge a fab story. Next please
I found this novel entertaining and interesting with its abundance of survival techniques. A small thing that bothered me was that I could not easily feel the passage of time until toward the end--it seemed the characters learned too many things a little too fast.
The author's descriptions were vivid, the romantic scenes well-written and realistic. Ms Moore paid attention to details, which I'm sure required a lot of research. The book's awesome cover would make anyone want to read Savage Dawn--it's eye-catching and draws you in. Oh, and I'm glad Karen Black, the main character, ended up with the right man. I was cheering him on all the way. -)
Readers won't be disappointed with this one.
This is an interesting story about survival during a natural disaster. We have individuals and families joining together to survive a volcano eruption. I found the story of love and hardships interesting. You might question whether it was possible for them to survive. One question Did they really have enough food to last until they could leave the cave? I feel that it's completely out of the realm of possibility that anyone else out in the elements could survive. I don't like to tell what's in a story so I will just hint. There was a man that they met near the end of the book that was living in conditions no where near as sturdy as the cave but he survived. Possible? I did not like the end. They were bringing back supplies from an area that had known diseases. It did not make sense, to me, that they would take a chance on carrying death back to the others.
Think of mixing "Dante's Peak" with "The day After Tomorrow", throw in a dose of "Clan of the Cave Bear", then you have this story. Very nicely written, some of the language I could have done without, but sometimes necessary to pen a good story. Not overloaded with action or thrills, just the right amount. Had a hard time visualizing parts of the scenery, people, places.
Could almost imagine this happening today to the world just to say Mother Nature and God are still in control of our lives and want us to do better with ourselves and each other. Gives you something to think about should this type of natural disaster happen today. Could we survive on our own with out modern luxuries like a stove, microwave oven, refrigerator, or even the freezer. Could you make your own shoes from animal skin?
Karen, after a nasty separation from a careless drunken husband, decides to take her daughter on a camping trip. Her best friend, Maria, along with Maria’s children and Karen’s current “crush” join her for a weekend away from the rigors of daily life.
Unbeknownst to Karen, her ex-husband along with his friend and a couple of prostitutes are also camping nearby.
When a nearby volcano, Mt. Edziza, erupts well before predicted, both parties, along with the entire world, are in a race against death. Karen is soon forced to confront her ex-husband and things go badly for Karen until she is rescued by another survivor.
The ensuing months following the eruption are fraught with dangers of human, animal, and nature varieties.
As a fan of corny sci-fi and apocalyptic scenarios, I truly enjoyed this book. It’s a combo of well-researched science and biology, love, jealousy, death, and destruction. I highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys predicting what happens after the “big one”.
